In Action: The Appeals achievements.
The Bansang Hospital Appeal has made real progress since my very first visit back in 1992. The major improvement program that has been implemented over the years has had a major impact on all departments.
The hospital now genuinely dispenses a very acceptable level of health care, with conditions on the wards having improved out of all recognition. It is now a great pleasure to visit the hospital and especially, my favourite, the children's ward.
However please do not be misled by the contents of this page as there is still so much more that needs doing. This is a hospital with an extremely high demand on its infrastructure and equipment due to the enormous numbers of patients constantly flowing through all departments. Recently replaced equipment and refurbished wards will require constant attention and frequent replacements to keep them within acceptable levels of effectiveness.
It is a constant battle to raise the necessary funds to just stand still, let alone make further desperately needed improvements. The hospital requires a steady stream of day to day supplies and attempting to satisfy just some of these requests, together with the transport costs, adds up to many thousands of pounds of commitment per year.
Major Construction Projects
New Children's Unit ~ Ever since 1992 I have always wished that I could dramatically improve the conditions for the infants and children on the ward at the hospital. My dream was to build a fully equipped purpose built 80 bed children's unit. This long held ambition became a reality towards the end of 2003 and the new unit finally opened its doors in June 2006.

Update and modernise the staff accommodation ~ In recent years it has become harder and harder to retain fully trained and qualified staff due to the actions of European governments. They have systematically enticed these wonderful nurses and doctors away from third world countries with the promise of better lives for themselves and the families. The consequences of such actions has left hospitals like Bansang desperately short of skilled staff with devastating effects on the patients welfare. I consider that if the Appeal can improve their lives with vastly improved living conditions and better education facilities for their children then we can perhaps stem the flow away from the hospital. This project is a vast undertaking and is desperately short of funding and so if you feel you could help then I will be eternally grateful ............... read more

Build a security perimeter wall
~ Domestic animals, cows, goats, dogs, donkeys etc and wild animals freely roam around the hospital grounds and sometimes venture inside the hospital. However along came the UKGSer group who decided that they would take on this project having witnessed first hand the problems that these animals were causing. This group rode 7 Honda 90 motorbikes from the UK to Bansang in early 2006 and on arrival donated the bikes (with 3 spares) support vehicle and 2 tons of medical aid to the hospital. On their return to the UK they produced a magnificent book, Scooters in the Sahara, of their epic journey with all proceeds going to the Appeals funds. Furthermore they decided to raise the necessary funds within their group to build a security wall around the hospital. This is the page that Bill Oates published to raise the necessary funds to build the wall.......... read more
