Without the magnificent effort and support of the following very special companies, individuals and groups of people much of the work featured on the 'In Action' page would not have been realised.
The MITIE Group PLC ~ MITIE ~ is one of the UK's leading support services companies. This remarkable company have been so supportive of the Appeals work and continue to demonstrate their commitment by taking on two very large vital projects. The first project, solar power for the children's unit, was completed in October 2006 and the second project, the restoration of the Colonial House, is in the later stages of planning and hopefully work will commence in January 2007. To read more about MITIE's involvment with the Appeal go to the ' In Action' page. Win a BMW Mini One Convertible ~ see Anita's Newsletter on the Site Map page for full details.
Omar Jim Wadda ~ 'Jim'll Fix It' as he is affectionately known in the Gambia is a quite remarkable man. Not only has he become my right hand man in The Gambia but also he is a brilliant engineer, builder and organiser and without him much of the ongoing vital construction work would not have even been started. This is a man with a big heart who is devoted to his country and to its people and I consider myself to be very fortunate to be able to call him MY FRIEND.
Kettering Rotary Club ~ The substantial fitting out costs of the new children's ward, in excess of £45,000.00, have been financed by their efforts on behalf of this project. They secured an International matching grant that has covered the purchase costs of all beds, mattresses, bedside cabinets, medical trolleys, photo therapy unit, autoclave, medical refrigerators, sterilization drum, oxygen concentrator, needle destructors, microscopes, self propelled wheel chairs, examination beds, x-ray viewing box, weighing scales, etc., etc..
The People of Northamptonshire and beyond ~ The extraordinary generosity of the supporters of the proposed New Children's Ward project ensured that nearly £52,000.00, of the required £96,000.00, was raised between Dec 2003 and Dec 2004. A family in the UK gave the remaining £44,000.00 anonymously.

Their promotion and coverage of the proposed New Children's Ward project ensured that all of the funding was in place within a year of the announcement.
BBC Radio 4, London ~ January 2006 I was interviewed on the Libby Purves Midweek radio programme. The response to this broadcast by the listeners was truly remarkable and led to substantial funds being raised. His continued advice, guidance and above all friendship is very much treasured.
Rae Davies ~ Rae and his team of extremely enthusiastic volunteers from North Wales built the temporary extension to the children' ward in 1997. Since that date Rae and his team have returned frequently to the hospital to complete a vast array of desperately needed improvements within most departments.
Rae's boundless energy, exceptional dedication and infectious enthusiasm rubs off on everyone he meets and his continued involvement in the Appeals work is absolutely vital to its future success. With Rae's remarkable persuasive powers the Appeal was able to secure an almost new Rolls Royce generator donated by MK Electric's, North Wales (see below). Rae organised the shipping of the generator and its installation.
The people of Bansang hold Rae very dear to their hearts and he, above anyone else, has convinced them that the world outside really does care about their future.
MK Electric's, Conwy, North Wales ~ Donated an almost new 300 kVa Rolls Royce generator and for the first time ever the hospital was now guaranteed power when it needed it the most, during emergency surgery. Full shower and washing facilities were installed and the ward was officially named the 'Kettering Labour Ward' in recognition of the fund raising efforts of KGH x-ray department staff.

On learning of the difficulties being experienced in the radiology department at Bansang Jean and Mary Atkinson, a colleague, travelled to the Gambia to conduct an in depth study of radiology departments throughout the country.
The very detailed report that Jean published resulted in two very significant benefits. The first was Kodak, UK, agreeing to supply a complete x-ray unit and all developing and viewing equipment to Bansang Hospital and the second was the Gambian radiologers forming their very own association, the G.A.R.R.T.
Kodak, England ~ Supplied an x-ray developing unit and viewing equipment.

The Rotary Club, Kettering ~ For the honour that they bestowed on myself and Peter McCormick by making us 'Paul Harris Fellows'. This is the highest award that the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International bestows upon anyone. The Rotary Club, Northampton ~ In conjunction with the International Matching Grants Programme the Rotarians contributed a magnificent sum of £7,500.00 ($10,500.00) that was used to purchase a desperately needed autoclave sterilization unit. Very special thanks must go to Mr Gethin Jones for his tireless efforts and months of hard work that ensured that this project was a complete success.

In all cases these were the first gifts that they had ever received.

Duston Girls Brigade ~ The pupils raised over £1,000.00 during the year 2000 -2001 and are continuing to support the Appeal for the year 2001-2002. Under the excellent leadership of Cheryl the pupils held many events including a pantomime, a bazaar and cake baking and it was their choice to ensure that the money raised was spent on life saving cannula's.
Distributors of Forever Living Products ~ They raised the necessary funds to complete the temporary extension to the existing children's ward.
